This article explains how to activate the Amazon Athena service within your Openbridge account quickly.

IMPORTANT: Before activating Athena within Openbridge, ensure you have configured your Amazon S3 bucket and IAM policies first. We require your AWS account to be configured to allow Openbridge access to S3 and Athena.

Configure Amazon Athena within Openbridge

Log in to your Openbridge account (if you don’t have one, create one for free).

Navigate to "Destinations" and select Amazon Athena by clicking the “Activate" button.

  1. Enter your Athena Connection Details which can be found in your AWS console. You must provide the Athena Amazon Region and Amazon S3 bucket names.

  2. Provide a name for your Athena Database Name.  Openbridge will create this for you within Athena. NOTE: Athena table, database, and column names allow only underscore (_) special characters and cannot contain any other special characters. See Amazon docs for reference.

  3. Provide your Amazon Athena Access Key ID and Secret Access Key details.

  4. Test your connection. If it passes, go to the next step. If not, review the entered information.

  5. Enter a descriptive Amazon Destination Name so that you can remember this location.

  6. Lastly, review your order, read and agree to the terms of services, and click “Save” your new data destination.

That’s it! Your new AWS Athena Data destination is ready.
